Elk & Sixes River Chinook Fishing – Crankin’ in the Big Boys
Fishing was great on the Elk & Sixes Rivers for a couple weeks or more while we had enough water in the rivers to invite the returning salmon and to float drift boats. While Seattle and Portland have been hammered with rain, recent storms have somehow missed Port Orford causing me to have to reschedule this weeks’ trips due to low water levels in the rivers. Bring on the Rain!
Lower Coquille Producing some Chromers
Ran a little Jet Sled trip on the Lower Coquille yesterday and the salmon cooperated. We hooked 3 chromers that made some hot little runs and certainly kept our attention up. Rumor has it, fresh barbecued salmon’s on the menu tonight
Coastal Rivers Including the Siuslaw & Umpqua are producing some Big Fall Salmon Already
Fun day on the Lower Umpqua launching out of Winchester Bay. Got into some Fatties (Fall Chinook) and even managed a few Dungeoness Crab to boot. Fishing should get better and better in the coming weeks as the run builds.
Excellent Rainbow Trout Fishing on Oregon’s most scenic McKenzie River
Todd & Jerry were very impressed with the quality and quantity of Rainbow Trout landed on flies during their recent McKenzie River drift boat adventure. They came to realize that even first-time fly fishermen can enjoy tremendous success when placed on good fish-holding water along with a few tips from the guide.
Steelhead Fishing on the Middle Fork Willamete and McKenzie Rivers will continue well into the Fall Months
Our local steelhead fishing can provide great sport for acrobatic, tailwalking, line burning fish. These feisty critters have been known to pound quite a variety of presentations including flies, jigs, spinners, plugs, and drifted baits
Late Season Mckenzie Salmon Fishing Winding Down
Bert & Bret went 2 for 3 on late-arriving Salmon during their McKenzie River drift last Saturday.
Big Kings Staging at the Elk River Mouth
In November and December I am headquartered down south on the Elk & Sixes Rivers at Port Orford. We have high hopes for a great late fall season this year. Big chunker Chinook are the target prey and the driftboat provides our means of attack. With consistent fall rains from Mother Nature and abundant numbers from the fish gods, this season could be epic. If you’ve never dabbled in this fishery, you may want to consider booking a trip.
Our Spring/Summer Salmon & Steelhead Season is now in Progress
My Guest Jamie Lowe was all smiles yesterday on his first Springer trip of the season. Fishing pressure was surprisingly light and the weather, absolutely delightful as we drifted down the McKenzie River. Hooking 3 salmon was icing on the cake, boding well for a season that is now just underway. We look forward to many more memorable days in the weeks ahead.
