Late Arriving McKenzie Springers
Robert K. found some fun action on late-arriving McKenzie River Spring Chinook
Middle Fork Willamette River is still kicking out some nice Springers along with it’s gorgeous Summer Steelhead
After shaking off the loss of a challenging summer steelhead which won the battle by shaking the hook at the last minute, Gary was very pleased to make good on his first back-bounced Willamette Springer.
A 3- Day McKenzie Fishing Adventure Yields Great Rewards
Wes had an absolute blast and brought home not only a lot of stories & memories, but quite a few fillets as we went 12 for 14 over 3 days of salmon and steelhead fishing on his mid-July 2016 McKenzie River Vacation. Truth be told, we spent 1 afternoon with Wes’s 6 year old grandson Taylor who put on a clinic of his own catching McKenzie Rainbows. No doubt Mom & his sisters got an earful once Taylor got home.
Gary opened up a can of Mojo on his recent McKenzie Fishing Adventure
Gary prevailed on 2 out of 3 of the Steelhead we tangled with on his recent McKenzie River Drift.
In Memory of Chris
Long time friend and frequent guest of RFGS, Chrissy D. recently lost a hard-fought battle with cancer. Her love of life, people, and fishing lives on in our hearts and memories along with that unforgettable infectious laugh and smile. Chrissy is holding a massive McKenzie River Steelhead, one of many toads she put in the boat over our years fishing together.
Spring Chinook & Summer Steehead Combo Trips
Dwight and Milton got to take home some quality McKenzie River tablefare.
McKenzie River Offers a Hat-Trick of Fishing Options
In addition to some excellent fly fishing for trout, we now have Spring Chinook Salmon & feisty Summer Steelhead all producing some fun summer fishing action on the McKenzie. This past week, Julie and her Dad celebrated a combination Birthday-Fathers Day with a salmon/steelhead combo trip. In addition to Julie’s big steelhead, they landed several nice Springers as well. Suffice to say, their Father’s Day BBQ was plentiful!
Spring Chinook – Summer Steelhead – Trout Now Showing on the McKenzie River & Middle Fork Willamette
Gary was happy to land a feisty Summer Steelhead & a fresh Spring Chinook on Tuesday’s trip down the McKenzie River. Action should continue to heat up in the weeks to come through June & July. On yesterday’s trout trip we landed 21 Rainbows on about 35 takes on wets & dries. Great trout fishing should also continue through the summer.
Winter Steelheading Moves into Full Swing. Many Rivers will peak from late January through February.
Now that we have transitioned from Salmon fishing into our Winter Steelhead season, we are enjoying consistent steelhead action on our southcoast streams whenever river levels and conditions cooperate
