Fishing Effort on Elk – Sixes has moved from Chinook to Steelhead
A hard fought battle with a big Elk River Winter Steelhead results in Chrome to the Beach
Still a few bright Chinook available on South Coast Rivers
For the few anglers working the Elk and Sixes, steelhead are far out-numbering Chinook in the creel census for the last week of 2012 and the first week of 2013. We have been fortunate to be the only boat with salmon for the ODFW checkers at the Ironhead landing for several days. We have been especially pleased that the fish have been in gorgeous condition, bright and shiny.
Mining Platinum on Southwest Oregon’s Elk River
Oregon’s world renown Elk River features the state’s latest arriving run of fall/winter Chinook that are big, bright and beautiful chunkers. Susan was delighted to come out on the winning side of a hard-fought battle with a gorgeous shiney football of a specimen.

Elk & Sixes Rivers are due to Rock
The Elk & Sixes Rivers in Southern Oregon are known for a late run of beautiful, big Fall Chinook. November & December are the best months to book a trip for these great fish.
Lee & Dave find some Late Season Action on the Midddle Fork Willamette
Dave and Lee were quite happy to enjoy some peace and solitude on their recent float from Dexter Dam down to Clearwater on the Willamette River. A few interuptions along the float due to some salmon and steelhead action seemed a welcome departure from the peace and quiet.
Our Spring Chinook – Summer Steelhead season is in Full Swing now on Oregon’s Majestic McKenzie River
Cecil & Julie brought some hot “Mojo” along on their McKenzie fishing trip on Wednesday. They really had a blast, and let me tell you, when Julie hooks a fish, pretty much everyone for half a mile knows it. Great fun! They ended up taking home 3 big Springers and a chromer Steelhead to boot. Not too shabby for folks looking for pleasant float, where hooking a salmon would be just a bonus. That kind of good attitude seems to just bring success.
