In Memory of Chris
Long time friend and frequent guest of RFGS, Chrissy D. recently lost a hard-fought battle with cancer. Her love of life, people, and fishing lives on in our hearts and memories along with that unforgettable infectious laugh and smile. Chrissy is holding a massive McKenzie River Steelhead, one of many toads she put in the boat over our years fishing together.

McKenzie River Offers a Hat-Trick of Fishing Options
In addition to some excellent fly fishing for trout, we now have Spring Chinook Salmon & feisty Summer Steelhead all producing some fun summer fishing action on the McKenzie. This past week, Julie and her Dad celebrated a combination Birthday-Fathers Day with a salmon/steelhead combo trip. In addition to Julie’s big steelhead, they landed several nice Springers as well. Suffice to say, their Father’s Day BBQ was plentiful!
Spring Chinook – Summer Steelhead – Trout Now Showing on the McKenzie River & Middle Fork Willamette
Gary was happy to land a feisty Summer Steelhead & a fresh Spring Chinook on Tuesday’s trip down the McKenzie River. Action should continue to heat up in the weeks to come through June & July. On yesterday’s trout trip we landed 21 Rainbows on about 35 takes on wets & dries. Great trout fishing should also continue through the summer.
Hot Trout Action on McKenzie Opener – Leads to a Delicious Fish Fry
Our Short Half-Day effort proved very successful on the McKenzie River Opener for planter trout. This is a very fun option available to us throughout the summer season. All our fish were caught on flies, so this is a great way to learn and practice fly fishing. Success like this can be a great introduction for novices and certainly helps to keep the attention span of youngsters. It’s just a real fun way to enjoy the river.
McKenzie River Continues to Provide Great Trout Fishing
John & Anthony had an excellent day of trout fishing enjoying many hook-ups on the fly rods. Easily landing 20 or more fish, they may have even become fly-fishing converts! The scenic beauty of the Upper McKenzie River is always a huge bonus.
Cancer Survivor Kids Enjoy a Fishing Drift Down the McKenzie River
Had the opportunity last Thursday to contribute a donated trip to this very rewarding, now annual event in which cancer survivor kids from Doernbecker’s Hospital are given a day of fishing down the McKenzie River. The event is spearheaded by the McKenzie Guides and our local Northwest Steeleader chapter and supported by numerous other contributors, businesses etc as well as some Duck and Beaver athletes .. In addition to the fishing, the group is treated to a pre-trip breakfast and then concludes with an afternoon BBQ at the takeout park. Certainly a good time for all. A Hearty thanks […]
