Lots of choices when it comes to Fall Fishing
Last week I had the priviledge of introducing a couple guys from out-of-town to the McKenzie River. They were looking for a couple days of mostly fly fishing and got to see quite a bit of river as we did about 10 miles each day. Day 1 we fished the upper river and gave the guys a few good rides through some white water with a chance to enjoy the scenic majesty along the river. Fall is a wonderful time of year with perfect temperatures and great color emerging in the riparian vegetation as Big Leaf Maples show in brilliant yellow while Vine Maples tease us with subdued hues of orange and red. Fly fishing for trout was good with both wet and dries proving productive.
On day 2 we explored the lower river. We started earlier than the previous day to give the steelhead a shot. As luck would have it, we found 2 cooperative steelies that found their way to our net. We also found more nice trout that again, were fooled by flies, both wet & dries.
While my guests truly enjoyed the fishing, I think they were equally impressed with the beauty of the river and its surroundings, not to mention the relative absence of other fishermen during our fall McKenzie trips.
