Prime Time For Late Winter Steelhead _ Rivers on the Drop
Submitted by John Gross on 5 March 2009 - 8:41am.
With all our coastal rivers now on the drop after recent rains, great opportunities for Winter Steelhead fishing will be had up and down the coast. I'm headed south tomorrow and will be situated to run trips on the South Fork of the Coquille as well as on the Elk & Sixes Rivers. Conditions should be prime as these rivers drop into "fishable" shape. The Elk is often the first to clear. Well to the south of the Elk runs the famed Chetco, noted for some very big native bruisers that have been known to grab an egg cluster or even tear up a plug in the month of March. To the north, the Siuslaw, Lake Creek, the Alsea and the Siletz have periodically grabbed the spotlight this season. Any one of these could have great potential this coming week, if not this weekend, depending on the speed of the drop. |
