My guest on Sunday got into some great trout action as he toyed with numerous scrappers in the 10"-16" range while also landing about 7 fatties in the 2-3 lb club. Spinners, spoons and Russel's "secret lure" all proved productive. A nearby fly fishermen also saw some action once the water warmed up. As the lakes's temperature rose, the bite just got better and better.

Dear Friends, Fishermen & Guests,

After a very cold, and snowy start to our spring, the last 2 days of sunshine were a very welcome change. I guess the bright side of all the extra work bucking up downed trees and cleaning up limbs and brush is the resulting cache of stocked firewood that will no doubt provide winter heat for years to come. It’s definitely time to start focusing on more enjoyable pursuits such as river floats and fishing trips.

Glenn miller truly appreciated some hard fighting Elk River Chinook he landed in early January 2012 while fishing with guide John Gross. Displayed above are two of the 4 fish hooked during the drift before a late afternoon rain sent us rowing hard to the take out.

A few very fortunate anglers were blessed with good timing this fall down on Elk-Sixes. While most anglers have been faced with tough drought-like conditions,this father and sons trio teamed up on memorable effort landing several chrome-bight beauties during their Elk River fishing adventure. Each individual played a key role in the effort. Jamie (dad) rowed the boat into the correct slot to find an aggressive and cooperative fish. Wyatt hooked and played the fish like a pro while his younger brother Dillon deftly handled the net.

FISHING REPORT:

Fish moved on up fairly quickly this past week on the Coos System, but a few are holding long enough in the Bay to grab an occasional bait. Silvers and Chinook are showing themselves on the lower Umpqua, especially just before high slack, but an aggressive & consistent bite has failed to develop. From Thursday through Sunday of last week, reports of improved Chinook fishing on the Siuslaw surfaced. The lower Coquille is now kicking out fish well upriver of Rocky Point and the crabbing near Bandon is reported as excellent.
