Mother Nature Throws us a Curveball as the Elk & Sixes River Run High and Muddy
Thanks to recent storms, the Elk and Sixes Rivers are running high and muddy today. Due to the popularity of these two gorgeous south coast streams, fishing in late November proved a tad tougher than earlier in the season as fishing and boat pressure has increased dramatically. None the less, persistence and a tap from Lady Luck’s wand, continues to create special moments and lasting memories from this season’s Elk-Sixes fishing.
Platinum Kings Continue to Dominate the Catch on the Elk & Sixes Rivers near Port Orford
We continue to yard some deep-bodied Chromeballs from the famed Elk & Sixes Rivers on Oregon’s beautiful South Coast! In addition to the big Kings, we also landed our first Winter Steelhead of the season just this past week.
Our 2016 Salmon Fishing so far on Elk & Sixes Rivers has not been disappointing!

Hard fighting, chrome bright, line burning, relentless demons, chock full of piss & vinegar. That’s why we come to fish the Elk & Sixes Rivers. We catch these gorgeous mint fish often just a mile or two from the ocean.
As the high water levels in most of our Coastal Rivers drop, Fall Chinook fishing in the free-flowing sections has improved
Mark & Jeff hold a couple beauties we hooked on our “high water drift” on Friday. One of the six hook-ups included a powerful beast that continued to run and hold in fast water. After a good half hour battle, we ultimately had to move down around a point to find water soft enough to bring it to net.

RT enjoyed a magical 2 days on the McKenzie River in late September. We did several different runs on the upper river targeting trout on the fly. Ron did an exceptional job of placing the flies right where fish live and the fish were indeed quite responsive. Both days he landed a bunch of scrappy trout, both wild and of hatchery origin. We used a combination of dries and nymphs with the wets working better in the morning and with the dries proving more productive in the afternoon. As usual, we’ve been enjoying some very fun trips on the upper McKenzie River fly fishing for trout. River traffic is way down, in fact, next to nothing with students back in school. Cooler temperatures and colors in the fall leaves all contribute to that special time of year when the afternoon trout action can be phenomenal!
